Celebrity Jewelry Auctioned for Haitian Relief Fund

As you may have heard, Haiti was struck by a devastating 7 magnitude earthquake on January 12th. It crippled the capital, Port-Au-Prince, leaving hundreds of thousands dead and millions homeless. Bodies were stacked on the streets and buried in mass graves, something that wasn’t seen since the holocaust. There are plenty of celebrities coming to the rescue, trying to raise money for their aid. Unfortunately, while the small third world island was getting relief aid, they were struck again by a 6.1 magnitude earthquake on January 20th. It didn’t do as much damage as the first, but it did strike more fear into the fleeing Haitians. Supposedly it was another aftershock (49 small scale aftershocks had already taken place). There are multiple celebrity charities that are raising money for relief and now celeb jewelry is being auctioned off in hopes of raising even more money.

Raju Rasiah, a jewelry designer, decided to donate all of his celebrity jewelry that stars wore to the SAG Awards and Golden Globes. He did this through his website in order to help the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. Some stars like Eva LaRue, Stephen Lang, Kate Flannery and Cheryl Hines will be wearing Rasiah’s jewelry to awards shows for the next two weeks. This will all be done to raise between $20 thousand and $30 thousand for the Haitian Relief. Other charities that have been raising money includes George Clooney’s, Hope for Haiti and Wyclef Jean’s, Yele Haiti, charity. So far, Yele Haiti has raised over $2 million for the relief fund.
